Sauerkraut Relish Recipe
Our sauerkraut relish recipe is divine! What a delicious addition to compliment any hamburger, hot dog, or even German bratwursts and metts. Your guests will love it!
- 1 32-ounce can of sauerkraut
- 1 cup celery chopped fine
- 1 cup green bell pepper chopped
- 1 small red bell pepper or pimento chopped
- 1 cup onion chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup salad oil (vegetable or canola)
Heat oil, vinegar and sugar until sugar dissolves.
Stir in rest of ingredients. Cover tightly and chill overnight.
Serve on hamburgers, hot dogs or your favorite sandwich.
Tip: You can also use the sauerkraut sold in the dairy case packaged in the bag or jar. These types of saurkraut have a fresher and crisper taste to them.
This excellent relish recipe can also be added to sandwiches for a flavorful twist on finger sandwiches for any baby shower food menu. Although some people may turn up their nose at the mention of “sauerkraut”, rest assured that after tasting this divine relish, they will have acquired a new taste and anew “attitude” about this totally misunderstood veggie!
Traditionally used as a hamburger, hot dog, bratwurst or mett condiment, you’ll find many other delicious non-traditional uses. Such as, to accompany a diced potato dish, a side dish for meatloaf or even on slices of toasted baguette bread brushed with olive oil for a sweet and sour tasty hors d'oeuvre!
